Highlights of Disznókő’s Successful Year in 2022

In 2022, Disznókő marked its 30th anniversary with numerous unforgettable moments, important events, and notable achievements. This summary presents the highlights of the past year.

Introducing our new sales director

With a degree in viticulture, national and international trade and marketing experience, and excellent English and Spanish proficiency, Szabolcs Ujfalussy guarantees the continued enhancement of Disznókő’s reputation worldwide. He coordinates and develops the winery’s commercial activities in 50 countries worldwide, working in conjunction with AXA Millésimes staff.

Visus – The charity wine of Disznókő

Disznókő introduced its latest dry wine, the Disznókő Visus Hárslevelű 2021, which has a Braille label to honor the harvesters. The estate produced only 300 individually numbered bottles to support a charitable cause. The wine received a warm reception from both national and international press. Disznókő has the tradition of harvesting with visually impaired and blind individuals since 2013, but this is the first time the harvest has resulted in this unique wine. The proceeds from the sale of the wine are donated to the County Organization of the Blind and Visually Impaired.

Disznókő Kapi 2017 – A new legend?

To honor Disznókő’s 30th anniversary, we released the Disznókő Kapi Tokaji 6 Puttonyos Aszú 2017. The extremely rare and unique wine perfectly reflects our exceptional terroir and the dazzling freshness of the Disznókő style, showcasing the full potential of wine with balance, depth, and elegance. The international launch was highly successful, with attendees able to taste previous vintages of Kapi. At the national premiere, we also presented our VPTS 2017, the successor to Aszú Eszencia.

In addition, the Tokaj Wine Order celebrated International Aszú Day with a vertical Disznókő Aszú tasting from the past 30 years.

Excellent scores for our wines

In 2022, Disznókő became the most successful Hungarian winery at IWC, known for its rigorous standards, while our wines were awarded five medals at the Decanter World Wine Awards.

James Suckling, the respected wine critic, reviewed our wines and awarded scores above 95 to several of them. He recommended them as must-have great classics that call for a second glass and described our 2007 Disznókő Eszencia as a legendary, once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Disznókő Furmint is one of the Top 100 Wines of 2022

It is noteworthy that Disznókő’s Tokaji Furmint 2020 made it to the Wine Spectator Top 100 list. We take pride in being the only Hungarian winery to be listed among the Top 100 wines in the world for two consecutive years.

Disznókő wines are on the best wine lists in the world

It is a source of great pride for us that our wines have made it to the winners’ wine lists of the „World’s Best Wine List Awards 2022”. This achievement is a testament to the unwavering dedication, consistency, and hard work of the Disznókő team over the last three decades, and being selected by the finest restaurants, bars, and hotels around the world is a significant acknowledgment of our efforts.

Participating in prestigious professional events

We represented our country as the only Hungarian winery in several prestigious professional events on the international wine scene. At the Spanish Magnificat – where only 55 premium wineries were invited – we presented our wines to over 1800 professionals.

At Decanter Fine Wine Encounter London Disznókő was among the 20 selected wineries showcasing the long evolution of its wines through different vintages in the Cellar Collection Room. We were also honored to be one of the four foreign wineries invited to participate in the XI Bourdeaux Tasting.

Positive feedback from the international press

Le Figaro’s wine column featured an interview with Disznókő’s director, László Mészáros, in June.

Renowned wine writer Simon Field MW published a long article titled Disznókő: Tokaj’s golden thread in The World of Fine Wine, which discussed the secrets of aszú making, the estate, and its wines.

The French wine magazine, Terre de Vins, praised Disznókő’s wines in an article titled „Disznókő: gold from the volcanoes of Tokaj” recommending them to those who associate sugar only with sweet wines.

British lifestyle magazines and renowned wine critic Olly Smith recommended Disznókő aszú for the Christmas menu, while BNN Bloomberg, a business consultancy news site, recommended our 2013 Disznókő 5 Puttonyos Tokaji Aszú as an investment in its article about „The 50 best wines under $50”.

Early harvest

We are confident that our wines from the 2022 vintage will also achieve good results. Although the drought has reduced the volume, with the second earliest vintage in our history, 2022 promises to be an excellent vintage.

Hosting cultural and sports events

It has been a pleasure for us to participate in the Zemplén Festival’s vibrant and high-caliber programs, showcasing performances by Hungarian and international artists and popular bands.

Tokaj-Hegyalja Market – held each month since 2012 – was another resounding success, connecting producers and artisans from the Tokaj Wine Region with discerning consumers seeking products of exceptional quality.

We also hosted the 9th Disznókő Tokaj Running cross-country race, with finishers receiving a medal, a bottle of Disznókő wine, and a nice meal at the Sárga Borház Restaurant. The Zemplén Rally’s path also traversed the Tokaj wine region and the scenic surroundings of Disznókő Vineyard, offering breathtaking vantage points and exquisite wines.

Disznókő values the beauty of simple things, such as unique experiences, hospitality, and the restorative effects of nature. We believe that enjoying a glass of fine wine can enhance these experiences and embody the knowledge, art, and culture that have been intricately linked to the region’s history and way of life for centuries. Our mission is to promote and share this rich heritage with everyone, making it accessible and exciting for all.
