James Suckling – former European Bureau Chief of The Wine Spectator magazine – is chairman and editor of JamesSuckling.com, a wine media platform, and events company. The site attracts viewers from over 110 countries and reaches an estimated 5 million wine enthusiasts with tasting notes, articles, and videos on the finest wines from the world’s major wine regions. Throughout his career, Suckling has tasted and rated close to 250 000 wines and remains actively involved in various wine projects as a wine writer and enthusiast.
Suckling, like many other wine critics, uses a 100-point rating system, with wines scoring above 90 considered outstanding, complex, and providing a remarkable experience. Wines that receive scores above 95 are recommended as classic, exceptional, must-have wines that one cannot have enough of in a single glass.
DISZNÓKŐ ESZENCIA 2007 – 98 points
„Only 1% alcohol here. This is nectar and it’s making a point with its Arabic dates, saffron, sulfured dried apricot, licorice syrup, brown sugar, and sweet papaya. Thick and black honey-like on the palate. “Painfully” concentrated with natural acidity balancing it out. Find a spoon to drink and chew. An unworldly Eszencia, and a wine you should try at least once before you die. Point made! Pull out the cork to enjoy a small sip every day or hold on to this.”

DISZNÓKŐ TOKAJI ASZÚ ESZENCIA 2005– 98 points
„Intense, but also fine and layered with tons of complexity, showing dried dark apricot, tangerine, sweet papaya, dried persimmon, and saffron. But on the palate, this is waxy, yet so effortless, with such bright and tangy acidity that makes it taste a lot less sweet than it is. Sea-buckthorn and kumquat finish. Really effortless and long. „Really intense and concentrated with sweet pineapple, beeswax, lemon, honey, and cream. Unctuous in the entry, but mouthwatering acidity cuts it through and grows on the palate, giving it a bright and long finish.”
Our elegant and complex 2015 Kapi Aszú received a rating of 98 points from Wine Enthusiast magazine and was chosen as an editor’s choice. DISZNÓKŐ TOKAJI 5 PUTTONYOS ASZÚ 2013 – 95 pont
„This is a great introduction to Tokaji Aszu at the beginning of its (very long) ideal drinking window. Stunning nose of lemon curd, dried peach, and candied pineapple. Rich and creamy with a touch of marzipan character, but more importantly bright acidity and fine tannins make this so invigorating. Spot-on balance through the very long and bright finish. A blend of 75% furmint, 15% zéta and 10% hárslevelű. Sustainable. Drink or hold.”

„Very attractive cooked mango and papaya aromas fill out the generous body. Quite some power and textural complexity here, but also lively acidity that has minerally saltiness at the long finish. A blend of 78% furmint and 22% Hárslevelű, matured in 225 and 500-liter oak casks. Sustainable.”
