A Taste of Timelessness: Our Aszús of the 2000s
To celebrate International Aszú Day, the Tokaj Wine Region Research Institute of Viticulture and Oenology organized a successful exclusive tasting showcasing Aszú wines from the 1990–1999 vintages. This year, the exciting series focused on the aszús from 2000 to 2009.
At the event, nearly 20 Tokaj wineries presented more than 40 aszús for tasting by invited wine writers, sommeliers, and wine merchants. Among them were the aszús of Disznókő Vineyard, demonstrating that Tokaji Aszú not only retains its magic for decades but can remain extraordinary even for a century, becoming increasingly complex with time.
In the early 1990s, the „Aszú Revolution” initiated by Disznókő sparked a nearly decade-long debate. By the 2000s, however, many had departed from the traditions of the old school, replacing the nutty, tobacco-like aromas with a fresher, peachy, and citrusy fruitiness. This unique aszú tasting proved that these aszús are still exceptional today and will likely remain so for decades.
Disznókő Aszús of the 2000s

The aszús of the 2000s are particularly exciting, as the decade brought several outstanding vintages. They are intense, elegant, creamy, and rich, sometimes surprisingly youthful.
Each bottle holds unparalleled richness, offering unique sensory experiences and showcasing that Tokaji Aszú doesn’t fade over time.
At the event, Disznókő presented a 6 Puttonyos Aszú from 2003, a 5 Puttonyos from 2009, and the Disznókő Kapi Vineyard 6 Puttonyos Tokaji Aszú from the rainy 2005 vintage.

Disznókő Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos 2009
„2009 is both rounded and dynamic, pulsating with the sensuality of an exotic dancer in every sip. A wonderfully rich and mature vintage.”
Made from 100% Furmint, this pure and concentrated aszú boasts a thick, silky, and creamy texture with youthful aromas of apricot and citrus. Thanks to the warm vintage and lower acidity, this was Disznókő’s richest 5 Puttonyos Aszú to date. Based on its sugar content, it could have been classified as a 6 Puttonyos, but due to its lower acidity, it was released as a 5 Puttonyos.

Disznókő Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos 2003
The year of rich, polished aszús, with the intense heat causing ripening to begin earlier than ever.
Made from 75% Furmint and 25% Zéta, this aszú has an aromatic and complex nose with truffle, praline, dried fruits, and vanilla notes. It is intense and rich with a velvety texture, beautiful acidity, perfect balance, and a long finish.

Disznókő Kapi Vineyard Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos 2005
It is an unforgettable vintage where, after a cool and rainy summer, the Indian summer brought warmth and dryness lasting until November.
This aszú, made from 100% Furmint, is rich, pure, perfectly balanced, and has a long and persistent finish. It combines vibrant acidity with refined structure and fruity aromas with mineral flavors.
- Key notes: apricot jam, orange, citrus, fantastic acidity, rich creaminess

- Residual sugar: 180 g/l
- Acidity: 8.5 g/l
Jancis Robinson: „A lovely expression of pure Furmint from old vines in Disznoko’s Kapivineyard. It has wonderfully ethereal aromas of white peach, mirabelle, and mock orange. To taste, it is gorgeously fine and pure yet intense, and very lingering. A very complete and elegant wine.” (19 points)
Tom Cannavan: „Lots of smoky, wonderfully fine mineral notes. Rich dried apricot and fig beneath, a hint of tea and ofbarley sugar Botrytis. The palate is stunning. It has a beautifully silky, glycerine-rich texture but never cloying, the full sweetness constrained and checked by fantastic depth of minerals and light vanillin oak notes, a touch of tannin and that core of shimmering acidity.” (95 points)
